    (a) Identify an internal (psychological) flaw your character has that holds him/her back. (What does your protagonist need to change in order to stop getting in his/her own way of reaching what he/she wants --or needs--by the end of the story?)  Your protagonist must have a character flaw!
    (b) What is going to be the inciting incident that kicks off the conflict in your story.
    (c) List three major incidents/battles that your protagonist encounters as he/she moves toward the goal?
    Consider it a punch/counter-punch move. What obstacle will the antagonist put in the protagonist's

  1. Share and discuss "Just Because" and "I Am" poems.
  2. Revision work: Find any abstract or vague language in the above poems and make it concrete (show it!).  If you have trouble finding any, have two other writers help you.
  3. Memory poem exercise: write about an incident in your past that affected the way you understood yourself or the world around you. (See handout for more details.)
Homework
  1. Go into your WCPSS student Google Drive (be sure to choose your WCPSS User Profile!), create a "New" doc, and type your original AND revised versions of your "Just Because" poem into it. (Title it "Just Because yourlastname")
  2. Follow steps above for both iterations of your "I Am" poem.  Title it "I Am yourlastname".  
  3. "Share" each doc with me (Jennifer Bennett/jbennett@wcpss.net)--be sure I have "Can Edit" rights.
